Action wins 'Deal of the year' at Dutch M&A Awards
3i's investment in Action was recognised as the 'Deal of the Year' at the annual Dutch M&A Awards in December 2011.
AESSEAL named International Trade Company of the Year
AESSEAL was named as the International Trade Company of the Year at the 2011 International Trade awards. These awards exclusively recognise the success of importers, exporters and those trading overseas.
AESSEAL triumphs at MX Awards
Rotherham-based AESSEAL, designers and manufacturers of mechanical seals, were overall winners at the 2011 Institution of Mechanical Engineers Manufacturing Excellence Awards.
AESSEAL took group turnover above £100 million in 2011, creating at least 80 new jobs. The judges highlighted several factors in their selection for the top spot: the company’s exemplary credit control and prompt payment of suppliers; its strong local community engagement; its corporate desire and efforts to improve the perception of manufacturing as a career, and above all the clear demonstration of its devotion to customer service.
Howden named Insurance Broker of the Year at the 2011 British Insurance Awards
Howden Broking Group, the broking arm of 3i-backed Hyperion Insurance Group, has won the prestigious Insurance Broker of the Year at the 2011 British Insurance Awards. The award recognises a company that can 'demonstrate a real commitment to meeting customer needs and delivering a high quality of service across all the lines of its business'.
ACR named Reinsurance Company of the Year
Pan-Asian reinsurer Asia Capital Reinsurance Group (ACR) has been named “Reinsurance Company of the Year” at the Worldwide Reinsurance Awards 2011. ACR is the first Asia-based reinsurer to receive the “Reinsurance Company of the Year” award.
The judging panel noted that “An enviable depth of knowledge about the markets in which it operates has allowed Asia Capital Reinsurance Group to flourish”. ACR now ranks among the top 50 global reinsurers.
Bestinvest wins Wealth Manager of the Year
Bestinvest has won UK Best Wealth Manager of the Year award from the FT and Investors’ Chronicle. This is a second win for the company, which has also won Best Discretionary Adviser at the MoneyMarketing Financial Services Awards 2011.
Bestinvest looks after c£4 billion of client assets across discretionary, advisory and execution-only services. The company has recently launched the best value online investment service for investors who want to make their own decisions called Bestinvest Select.
Hyva wins ‘Deal of the year - France & Benelux’ at the Private Equity Awards 2011
The Private Equity Awards recognise the very best achievements of individuals and firms working within venture capital and private equity. Presented by Real Deals, these annual awards are the ultimate accolade for the industry's dealmakers and advisers.

3i wins PEI Asian infrastructure fund manager of the year award
3i has won 'Asian infrastructure fund manager of the year' at the 2010 PEI Infrastructure Investor Awards.
The Infrastructure Investor 2010 awards are the result of a month-long, democratic voting process which canvassed the views of its readers on the firms and deals that they considered to be the best-of-breed in almost 50 different categories.
3i portfolio company Giraffe scoops catering award!
Restaurant chain Giraffe (www.giraffe.net) picked up the award for Best Use of Social Media, a new category for 2010, and was commended for its innovation. One judge commented that the site had "good use of Twitter and Facebook" and drove a community "through signing up customers for the Hug club with the promise of offers".
The Caterersearch.com Web Awards are the only web awards for the hospitality community. They recognise and reward the people and organisations responsible for developing some of the most effective hospitality websites on the internet today.
3i wins Singapore Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (SVCA) Award
3i has been honoured by the Singapore Venture Capital and Private Equity Association with the award for Best Performing VC/PE-backed Company (Mid-Cap) for its investment in Asia Capital Reinsurance Group. The award identifies and recognises superior business performance achieved by investors and investee companies working closely together, through good times and bad times.
The judging panel awarded the accolade due to 3i's outstanding ability to add value both in raising the capital initially and subsequently in supporting management to build the business.
3i and Khazanah successfully completed the lead investment in ACR’s US$620 million inaugural private placement in December 2006. This transaction was the largest ever private placement for a start-up company in Asia and created the first exclusively pan-Asia focused independent reinsurer.
3i has won ACQ awards for Buy & Build Equity and Large Equity House in Scandinavia
The ACQ Awards are voted for by the 28,000 readers of the ACQ magazine.
Sunday Times Buyout Track 100
The fourth annual Sunday Times Buyout Track 100 list includes four 3i-backed businesses:
Testing services provider Inspicio was at 19th place. Inspicio’s profits have risen 75% a year from £12.9 million in 2006 to an annualised £39.5 million in 2008. 3i backed the public to private transaction at the end of 2007.
Baby products manufacturer Mayborn was in 45th place, with profit growth of 51%. The Newcastle-based business, whose brands include Tommee Tippee and Sangenic, employs nearly 1,500 staff and recently launched its Tommee Tippee brand in the US. 3i first invested in the business in 2006.
Two SMI companies also featured: dairy equipment maker Fullwood and food retailer Frozen Value, which trades under the Jack Fulton brand.
ICSA Hermes Transparency in Governance Awards
The ICSA Hermes Transparency in Governance Awards are a new initiative launched by ICSA in partnership with Hermes Equity Ownership Services, which seek to identify and reward high standards of disclosure, with the aim of encouraging improvements both in the disclosure process and in governance performance itself. In November 2009, 3i won the award for the best practice disclosure on risk management and internal control.
The ICSA Hermes Transparency in Governance Awards represent an important aspect of the Institute's wider objective to promote good governance as a source of value creation, central to the process of formulating strategy and delivering results and have the backing of the Government, the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), the Association of British Insurers (ABI), the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and the Financial Times.
Quintiles Transnational wins 'Best Contract Research Organisation'
Scrip World Pharmaceutical News - the flagship title of the global pharmaceutical industry - hosted the 5th annual Scrip Awards on Wednesday 18th November in London.
3i portfolio company, Quintiles Transnational, won the award for Best Contract Research Organisation. The award is designed to recognise the crucial role played by CROs in drug development.
Quintiles has won a number of accolades from its clients and industry observers over the past year and has created unique partnerships with its customers to absorb some of the risk of drug development, including recent agreements with Lilly. Quintiles' strategic partnering group, NovaQuest, is involved in a $300m investment agreement covering two of Lilly's late-stage Alzheimer's disease compounds.

Butterfield Fulcrum wins Best Administrator for Managed Accounts
Butterfield Fulcrum was named Best Administrator for Managed Accounts at HFMWeek’s Inaugural US Service Provider Awards in New York City. Butterfield Fulcrum was selected over five other firms in the category on the basis of “continuing to invest, expand and meet the changing needs of clients.”
“Managed accounts are a fast-growing segment in alternative asset management as investors are looking for more flexibility,” said Akshaya Bhargava, Butterfield Fulcrum's CEO. “That flexibility greatly increases the technological sophistication required of the administrator so we have dedicated a lot of resources over the past year to making managed accounts a strong focus area. That makes this award especially gratifying for us.”
Earlier in the year, Butterfield Fulcrum was named Best Single Manager Administrator at the inaugural HFMWeek European Service Provider Awards.
BVCA CEO Awards
The BVCA CEO Awards is a year-long process of regional and national nominations and judging established to highlight and celebrate the achievements of CEOs of private equity and venture capital backed companies.Chris Rea of our portfolio AES Engineering won the BVCA national awards 2009 in the category Best Corporate and Environmental Responsibility.
AESSEAL wins four Queen's Awards For Enterprise
3i portfolio company AESSEAL has received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Sustainable Development 2009 and the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2009. In addition, their Belfast subsidiary, AESSEAL (MCK) Ltd applied for and has been granted two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise; for International Trade 2009 and Innovation 2009. This is the first time a Northern Irish company has received two Queen’s Awards in a single year. To date, AESSEAL has now been awarded 11 Queen's Awards for Enterprise.
