SLR award

Environmental consultancy SLR has been awarded a prestigious gold RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Award for its commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and those in the communities in which it operates.
This is the second time SLR has received a RoSPA award, but the first time they have been presented with a gold one, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to improving its safety performance.

3i has won ACQ awards for Buy & Build Equity and Large Equity House in Scandinavia

The ACQ Awards are voted for by the 28,000 readers of the ACQ magazine.

Private Equity News Awards For Excellence In Private Equity


Jonathan Russell of 3i received the Private Equity Personality of the year award in recognition of his work for the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association at an event hosted by weekly private equity trade publication Private Equity News at London’s Banqueting House.

These awards provide a forum at which success in EMEA's private equity industry is acknowledged by, and promoted to, investors, service providers and industry peers.
London paper City AM, which reported on the event, commented: “Russell last year managed to fit in a mountain of work for the [EVCA] around his day job – no mean feat given the weight of the proposed damaging EU legislation against the industry.”

Sunday Times Buyout Track 100


The fourth annual Sunday Times Buyout Track 100 list includes four 3i-backed businesses:
Testing services provider Inspicio was at 19th place. Inspicio’s profits have risen 75% a year from £12.9 million in 2006 to an annualised £39.5 million in 2008. 3i backed the public to private transaction at the end of 2007.
Baby products manufacturer Mayborn was in 45th place, with profit growth of 51%. The Newcastle-based business, whose brands include Tommee Tippee and Sangenic, employs nearly 1,500 staff and recently launched its Tommee Tippee brand in the US. 3i first invested in the business in 2006.

Two SMI companies also featured: dairy equipment maker Fullwood and food retailer Frozen Value, which trades under the Jack Fulton brand.

ICSA Hermes Transparency in Governance Awards

The ICSA Hermes Transparency in Governance Awards are a new initiative launched by ICSA in partnership with Hermes Equity Ownership Services, which seek to identify and reward high standards of disclosure, with the aim of encouraging improvements both in the disclosure process and in governance performance itself. In November 2009, 3i won the award for the best practice disclosure on risk management and internal control. 
The ICSA Hermes Transparency in Governance Awards represent an important aspect of the Institute's wider objective to promote good governance as a source of value creation, central to the process of formulating strategy and delivering results and have the backing of the Government, the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), the Association of British Insurers (ABI), the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and the Financial Times.


SCRIP Awards Winner 2009

Quintiles Transnational wins 'Best Contract Research Organisation'

Scrip World Pharmaceutical News - the flagship title of the global pharmaceutical industry - hosted the 5th annual Scrip Awards on Wednesday 18th November in London.

3i portfolio company, Quintiles Transnational, won the award for Best Contract Research Organisation. The award is designed to recognise the crucial role played by CROs in drug development.

Quintiles has won a number of accolades from its clients and industry observers over the past year and has created unique partnerships with its customers to absorb some of the risk of drug development, including recent agreements with Lilly. Quintiles' strategic partnering group, NovaQuest, is involved in a $300m investment agreement covering two of Lilly's late-stage Alzheimer's disease compounds.

Butterfield Fulcrum wins Best Administrator for Managed Accounts

Butterfield Fulcrum was named Best Administrator for Managed Accounts at HFMWeek’s Inaugural US Service Provider Awards in New York City.  Butterfield Fulcrum was selected over five other firms in the category on the basis of “continuing to invest, expand and meet the changing needs of clients.”

“Managed accounts are a fast-growing segment in alternative asset management as investors are looking for more flexibility,” said Akshaya Bhargava, Butterfield Fulcrum's CEO.  “That flexibility greatly increases the technological sophistication required of the administrator so we have dedicated a lot of resources over the past year to making managed accounts a strong focus area. That makes this award especially gratifying for us.”

Earlier in the year, Butterfield Fulcrum was named Best Single Manager Administrator at the inaugural HFMWeek European Service Provider Awards.

The BVCA CEO Awards is a year-long process of regional and national nominations and judging established to highlight and celebrate the achievements of CEOs of private equity and venture capital backed companies.Chris Rea of our portfolio AES Engineering won the BVCA national awards 2009 in the category Best Corporate and Environmental Responsibility.

AES wins four Queen's Awards For Enterprise

3i portfolio company AES Engineering Ltd has received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Sustainable Development 2009 and the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2009.  In addition, their Belfast subsidiary, AESSEAL (MCK) Ltd applied for and has been granted two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise; for International Trade 2009 and Innovation 2009. This is the first time a Northern Irish company has received two Queen’s Awards in a single year. To date, AES has now been awarded 11 Queen's Awards for Enterprise.

Private Equity International Awards

3i has been voted 'The best Private Equity firm in the UK' by readers of Private Equity International.

This follows last year's successful awards where 3i was voted 'European mid-market firm of the year' and Editor's Choice 'mid-market firm of the year'. The awards, which recognise the private equity industry's achievements in the year 2008, are featured in the PEI annual review, published in Spring 2009.

The award will be presented at The 2009 Global Winners’ Celebration, on the evening of 4th June 2009 at the V&A museum, London.

3i has won mid-market private equity firm of the year in the 2009 Acquisitions Monthly awards. Widely acknowledged as the M&A industry's premier event, the awards are decided by a combination of pitch submissions, the editorial team’s research and the views of external judges.

3i wins Mid-Market Buyout House of the Year

3i's consistent winning run of industry awards continued in November 2008, when it was voted Mid Market House of the Year at the British Private Equity Awards. The judges noted that:

"Synonymous with the mid-market, 3i won kudos for “retaining its strategy” in today’s market." What also impressed judges was 3i’s in-house banking team. Established in 2005, the team helps 3i to be strongly placed among the increasingly fragile international banking community. In addition, it was noted that: "The group's global network is among the most impressive in the industry, and that puts its target companies in a strong position to utilise countless synergies".

The British Private Equity Awards are managed by Unquote" and celebrate excellence and innovation in the dynamic UK private equity sector.

AES wins CIMA award for CSR

The CIMA judges stated that: "AES is a fantastic example of a small business making a significant contribution to its local community – and the wider environment."

Rotherham-based business, AES, is a small firm with a big vision to be a CSR role model. It has gone out of its way to meet the highest quality standards and ensure that these standards are fully integrated into its management philosophy, systems and the decision making process. In so doing, the company has reduced its carbon footprint by 75%.  The company's CEO is the principal architect and driver behind the firm’s wetlands wildlife sanctuary project which is located at the company’s headquarters. This has the dual role of diverting water during flash flooding and providing a sanctuary for wildlife.

3i and NORMA Group receive Maetova award

3i and NORMA Group received the Maetova-Award for "The most successful succession solution with private equity for small to medium-sized businesses" on 4 November 2008. 

The Maetova-Award
The award was presented by Deloitte in cooperation with two universities and a leading German business magazine, and honours successful partnerships with private equity firms and investment companies. Maetova stands for Mergers Acquisitions and Equity to Value.

Further reinforcing its position as a world leader in private equity, 3i has won House of the Year and Large Deal of the Year (NCP*) at the annual Private Equity Awards, hosted by RealDeals and BVCA. The judging panel acknowledged 3i's 'seminal' year, including investment of over £1.2bn and the successful launch of 3i Quoted Private Equity Limited. For NCP, the judges were impressed by the cleverly structured finance package, the increase in employee numbers and the subsequent sale of half the business, with 3i retaining the high-growth NCP Services.

*NCP rebranded itself as NSL in April 2009.
