3i defines infrastructure as asset-intensive businesses providing essential services over the long-term, often on a regulated basis or with a significant component of revenue and costs that are subject to long-term contracts.

3i achieves its exposure to the infrastructure sector primarily through its shareholding in 3i Infrastructure plc and commitment to the 3i India Infrastructure Fund. 3i Investments plc, a wholly-owned subsidiary of 3i, advises 3i Infrastructure in its investments and acts as fund manager of the 3i India Infrastructure Fund.

Through its 33.3% investment in 3i Infrastructure plc, 3i is committed to building its exposure to a portfolio of high-quality infrastructure assets diversified across different stages of the asset life cycle and with a balanced risk profile within the sector.  It seeks investment opportunities across the globe, with a focus on Europe, North America and Asia.
