What development/training opportunities does 3i offer?
3i offers a broad range of training and development opportunities designed to maximise performance in current roles and develop potential.
We don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach to development and training. There are a wide range of roles within 3i and our experience is that individuals have very different needs. We do however believe very strongly that shared development experiences are a powerful element of our culture and add much to our team based approach to doing business.
So we use a variety of methods from formal work- based learning to externally run high level leadership development programmes. These include coaching / mentoring, opportunities to work on interdisciplinary projects and virtual learning as well as more traditional skills and knowledge development experiences.
Creating the right development programme in practice and meeting the needs of a rapidly changing business means that career planning and review is essential component in achieving this.
Can I move in to the investment teams from a professional services team?
We're open minded, so all vacancies are advertised internally and anyone can apply for opportunities which they feel might be suitable for them. However we do need to ensure that all roles in 3i are filled by those who have the relevant background and experience. For entry level roles in our investment teams relevant experience normally includes time as an analyst or an associate at an investment bank or a management consultancy. For those in professional services who don’t have this type of experience there are roles in 3i which have more direct involvement with the investment teams without being in an investment executive role.
Does 3i offer a graduate training scheme and what are the requirements for applicants at entry level?
3i doesn't operate a classical graduate programme, as given the nature of our business we tend to recruit more experienced people. Our most junior investment stream positions are at Analyst level where applicants typically require two years of post-graduate professional experience in an M&A, Corporate Finance, Tax, Audit or Consultancy environment. On occasions however, our European Offices will hire newly qualified graduates with relevant work experience gained through focused internships in an M&A, Corporate Finance or Advisory environment.
What opportunities are there for recent MBA graduates at 3i?
We view MBAs as strategic hires at associate level. Our associates are outstanding individuals from diverse backgrounds, with a proven track record of excellence at the top MBA schools from around the world together with typically 5 years’ experience in a blue-chip financial environment (e.g. investment banking, private equity house, accountancy, and consultancy). If this is you we would be very interested in hearing from you.
Does 3i offer work experience or summer placement opportunities for students still at University or school?
There are some opportunities each year to do this but it is fair to say that demand normally outstrips supply.
