GAIN Capital Group (GAIN) is a leading independent provider of online foreign exchange (forex) trading for individuals and institutions. GAIN is a market leader with a strong presence in North America, Europe and Asia.
The company was founded in 1999 and has clients from over 140 countries. By employing the internet to attract and service customers in a low-cost model, GAIN is able to offer its customers expanded trading access while dramatically reducing trading costs. Sophisticated technology infrastructure provides streaming rates and instant trade execution on volumes of over $100bn per month.
Investment Overview
We invested in GAIN Capital Group in January 2008. Since the investment we have actively partnered with GAIN’s management team and 3i partner Crevan O’Grady joined the Board of the company.
We played a key role in appointing a new CFO through our Business Leaders Network and worked closely with GAIN on a strategic marketing assessment of its customers and products, which has helped improve the efficiency of its direct marketing activity.
In 2010 we worked closely with GAIN’s management team on preparation for IPO and in December 2010, GAIN floated on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ‘GCAP’. We continue to partner with GAIN as a key shareholder.
