Nature of Business
Futaste is China’s largest – and the world’s second largest – producer of Xylitol.
Xylitol is a 100% natural sweetener without the side-effects of sugar and artificial sweeteners and is used in chewing gum, food, drink and pharmaceutical products. The Company has successfully built a strategic partnership with its long-term customers such as Wrigley and Kraft, mainly for chewing gum.
Investment Overview
3i invested in December 2007 for a 20% stake in the business, and our global network and sector experience is playing an important part in Futaste's international growth.
Futaste has a market-leading position in the Xylitol market and its premium customer base has allowed it to weather the recent decline in global Xylitol demand.
We are working closely with management to professionalise the business and streamline manufacturing and operations. We are working with the Chairman on corporate governance and have facilitated the connection with many overseas companies for potential partnership on production, technology, and product sales.
