We have an investment team of 8 Italian professionals operating out of our office in Milan.

Marco Fumagalli leads the team, together with partners Lorenzo Salieri and Marco Termini, and draws on support from seasoned practitioners with specialist local insights. We have strength in depth across industry sectors, drawing on backgrounds that range from retail, food and engineering through to healthcare and financial services.

We work closely with our 3i colleagues across the world to ensure that in each investment situation we put together the right team for the job, drawing on the experience and knowledge of our extensive network of professionals.  This means that we have both a local and global knowledge of the market, which allows us to anticipate trends to the benefit of our investee companies.

We target opportunities in two ways:

• We seek to invest alongside management in the buyout of Italian businesses with an enterprise value up to €1bn.  Our most recent investment is the buyout of Global Garden Products, a leader in the distribution of lawn mowers and powered garden equipment.

• We also work in partnership with management and majority shareholders to invest in growth capital opportunities, investing equity of €50-250 million to support Italian companies in their organic growth, share purchases or acquisition strategy.

In most cases we invest from our own balance sheet, so we are flexible, committed and patient investors.  For each investment, we let the exit strategy evolve in line with the company’s needs.
