Nature of Business
Joyon is a leading Chinese residential property developer. It has partnered with 3i on residential property development in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan Province, which has a population of around 6 million.
This segment of the market continues to grow in second tier Chinese cities, driven by the lack of quality supply and the demands of the rising affluent middle class. Joyon’s management team includes some of the earliest real estate developers in China with an excellent track record.
Investment Overview
Through its China Growth Capital team, 3i invested $50m of a total $100m investment in May 2007, in partnership with Joyon, to develop a mid- to high-end residential development project in Changsha.
Having provided capital to secure the project, we used our international network to organize a number of meetings in Europe for the Chairman with leading building design and specialist property management companies, namely Fosters & Partners, Peverel and Pegasus.
We have also been assisting Joyon with high level planning and with the development of an action plan, to monitor development progress and introduce professional auditing and accounting standards.
