Nature of Business
Mayborn is a leading manufacturer and distributor of baby and child products under the Tommee Tippee brand, a market leader in baby feeding, hygiene and related baby and toddler products. The company operates from its head office in Cramlington in the UK and a number of international locations including manufacturing facilities in the UK, China and Morocco.
Tommee Tippee has appeared in the list of the UK’s top 500 Superbrands, as voted by consumers, every year since 2010.
We completed the €200m public-to-private transaction of Mayborn in July 2006. In Mayborn we saw the opportunity to drive growth in new product development and international expansion through well established and respected brands.
We divested the non-core activities early in our ownership and reshaped the business to focus purely on the Baby and Child division. This has enabled the business to follow a strategy focused on the expansion opportunities in the growing global baby products market identified during our investment process.
One of the major developments for the Tommee Tippee brand has been the introduction of the ‘Closer to Nature’ newborn feeding range. This has helped Mayborn increase its market share in a number of key markets and become the clear UK market leader. Both the success and power of the Tommee Tippee brand has been demonstrated by its inclusion every year since 2010 in the list of the UK’s top 500 Superbrands as voted for by consumers.
Under 3i’s ownership, Mayborn has experienced rapid growth through international expansion, including the highly successful launch of Tommee Tippee in the US during 2010 as well as acquisitions in France and Australia.
