Alan joined 3i in 2005 and is Managing Partner, UK Private Equity, having previously been Global Sector Head for Business Services. Prior to joining 3i he spent 13 years in investment banking, latterly as a Managing Director at Societe Generale, where he was Global Head of Transport & Business Services, advising a range of quoted and private equity owned businesses.

Since joining 3i Alan has worked on the buyouts of a number of businesses both in the UK and internationally. He currently sits on the boards of Environmental Scientifics Group, Mayborn and Element Materials Technology (formerly SMT). Alan is also a member of the Mid-Market Committee of the British Venture Capital Association and a non executive director of Andrew Weir & Company, an international shipping and property group. Alan started his career as a chartered accountant at KPMG.
