Biography

Axel is a Director within 3i's healthcare team, focussed on European buyouts and based in Frankfurt.

Prior to 3i Axel held various positions at Merck KGaA, most recently as CEO of Merck's subsidiary in Austria. Beforehand he spent several years as Head of Global M&A at Merck where he had a leading role in numerous acquisitions and divestitures. Previously Axel was a Director in M&A at Lehman Brothers and a VP M&A at DLJ.

Most recently Axel was involved in the acquisition of Axellia, one of the leading producers and marketers of fermentation based active pharmaceutical ingredients.

Axel holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Bamberg (1993) and is an alumni of Merck's executive management program (INSEAD, Northwestern Kellogg and Hong Kong UST). Furthermore he did an apprenticeship as a banker.
