Peter joined 3i in 1997 as a Sector Adviser for 3i’s communications sector and formed 3i’s first communications sector Group. Peter is a Partner in the 3i Venture team. Peter has extensive experience in the communications sector. After starting as a programmer with IBM in 1967, he went on to work and teach in the computer department at Essex University, leaving to set up his own software consultancy business. That evolved into a venture-backed IT services company, which Peter sold in 1988. He then went on to be CEO of three other companies in the data and voice networking markets, before joining 3i in 1997.Peter has reviewed the business plans of nearly 1000 communications-related businesses since coming to 3i. His understanding of the market was key to investment decisions on Kingston SCL, provider of telecom billing software (sold to Telesens), and Telecity, a specialist communications facilities management company (floated in 2001).Peter is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors and a Chartered Engineer of the British Computer Society division of the IEEE.He has an MBA from Cranfield and a B.A. in Computer Science.
