Nature of Business
Ålö is the world’s leading manufacturer of front-end loaders for agricultural tractors.
Incorporated in 1949, Ålö employs 800 staff and offers globally recognised brand names, such as Quicke, Trima and Veto. The company produces 26,000 front-end loaders each year, accounting for 15% of the worldwide market.
Ålö operates two production facilities at its headquarters in Umeå in northern Sweden, as well as factories in Bergsjö (Sweden), Denmark and France. Ålö’s new manufacturing programme has significantly reduced the number of product lines and increased capacity.
The company’s main distribution channels are its own subsidiaries and national distributors and it has a sales presence in nine countries. Ålö also supplies OEM manufacturers such as Valtra and AGCO.
Investment Overview
In June 2011, 3i and funds sold their stake in Ålö to Altor fund III for 2.2 bn SEK (€240m). The sale of Ålö will see 3i make approximately a 4x money multiple on its original investment.
