Extec designs and manufactures machinery that crushes and screens rock. Its products are used primarily in quarries and demolition sites. Extec specialises in smaller machinery, which is mounted on mobile tracks and used in many smaller quarries and demolition sites where larger fixed equipment is uneconomic.

Established in 1987 and based in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, Extec employs 433 people. It makes around 500 units a year, which sell for between £60,000 and £230,000.

Extec is one of two clear international leaders in the mobile market sector. Its key markets are the UK, US and Germany, where it is number two by market share. The company won the Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2005 for its development of overseas markets and export of its machines.
