Grup Maritim TCB is a major player in the Spanish containerised shipping market with interests in ports in Barcelona, Tenerife and Cuba. 3i led a buyout in January 2000 valued at €200m.

Funds enabled TCB to acquire the port of Barcelona and purchase stakes in five other port. 3i advised on business strategy and participated in negociations with banks and financial institutions. The company was sold in 2006 after increasing turnover from €140,5m in 2000 to €177,8m in 2006
