Nature of Business
GST is a leading fire alarm system and solution provider in China. It’s primarily engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of fire alarm systems, fire network systems and other products such as video entry systems, electronic power meters and building automation systems.
Founded in 1993, GST has become the largest operator in its local market by market share and sales revenue and is the most well-known brand within the industry.
GST is now part of UTC Fire & Security (UTCFS), a global leader in fire safety and security.
Investment Overview
3i’s China team Invested $20.5m for a minority stake in GST in December 2004.
Through our local network, we helped to source two independent directors to the board and introduced a new CFO who brought new level of professionalism to the financial reporting. We also provided access to strategic partners outside of China, enabling GST to realise its international growth objectives.
After two years of successful partnership, we supported the company on its IPO on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in June 2005.
