Local Press is a newspaper publisher, which owns a range of regional titles in Northern Ireland.
Local Press has nine titles. Some are subscription only, others are free circulation. These include the Belfast Newsletter, the oldest newspaper still in circulation in Ireland and in existence since 1737, and the Derry Journal, the second oldest, established in 1772.
The combined circulation for Local Press’s paid-for titles stands at just over 83,500 and its free paper City News has a circulation of more than 33,000. Readership for the titles varies but focuses on the metropolitan and rural regions around Belfast and Derry, Northern Ireland’s two largest cities.
The Derry Journal commands around 40% market share. The Newsletter’s share is lower, as it is in a highly competitive Belfast dailies market, which consists of some 20 titles.
The business was formed in 2004 following a buyout from Trinity Mirror. It is headquartered in Belfast.
