MKM is the fifth largest independent builders’ merchant in the UK.

Hull-based MKM Building Supplies is one of the largest privately owned companies in East Yorkshire and the fifth largest independent builders’ merchant in the UK, with turnover of £83m.

Founded in 1995, MKM operates in a polarised market reflecting the level of consolidation in the industry that has occurred over the past ten years. Over that period, MKM has been the fastest growing independent in its sector. MKM’s product mix is 65% heavy-side such as brick and blocks and 35% light-side which includes bathrooms and kitchens.

The company employs 420 staff at 19 sites between Grimsby and Edinburgh. Each branch is a separate limited company with 75% owned by MKM and 25% owned by the investing branch director.
