Nature of Business

Founded in 1936, Monviso is an Italian producer of rusks, salt-free breadsticks, crispy bread, gluten-free products and biscuits. The company’s own-brand products represent approximately 83% of the total turnover of the business, while private labels account for 17%.

In the last two years the company has started selling its Crustini (crispy bread) product outside Italy.

Investment Overview

3i led the €21m buyout of Monviso in July 2005.

With our support Monviso launched a range of new products, grew export sales and expanded its sales channels. We worked closely with the business to renegotiate and extend contracts with its main customers.

We helped strengthen the Monviso Board with the introduction of Chairman Roberto Consonni, a 3i Senior Advisor with considerable experience in branded consumer goods and also established a succession plan for key management. We successfully exited the business in September 2008, selling Monviso to Alto Partners for €35m.
