Nature of Business
Radius is the UK market leader in the manufacture of thermoplastic pipe systems for the gas, water and telecom utility markets. The company has a strong track record of new product development and technological advancements with the aim of reducing installation costs and helping its customers become more efficent. As a result the business has developed strong long term relationships and contracts with blue chip utility company customers.
Investment Overview
In June 2008, 3i led the buyout of Uponor UK from its Finish parent, Uponor Oy, for €136m. Following the completion of the transaction the business changed its name to Radius Systems and carried out a rebranding exercise.
Across 3i we have a deep understanding of the utility markets within our general industrial and infrastructure teams. Using our experience we were able to assess the market opportunity and understand the growth potential of the business not only in the UK but also in new markets. By leveraging its UK manufacturing credentials and reputation for quality we have set up a joint venture in Abu Dhabi to access fast growing Middle East markets.
In addition to this, we are working on operational efficiencies through our Active Partnership programme. This programme has already delivered recurring manufacturing efficiencies worth €1.5m and we have identified further profitability enhancing measures. As such we are well underway in our plan to create a world-class manufacturer operating in some of the most exciting and fast growing markets in the world.
