This approach limits the time and distance organs can travel from donor to recipient, prevents surgeons from evaluating the health of an organ before implanting it, and contributes to post-transplant complications.

TransMedics has developed a technology platform called the Organ Care System that provides a complete support environment for organs en route to transplant recipients.

Based on the company’s warm blood perfusion technology, the Organ Care System contains proprietary technologies that simulate the conditions of the human body and allow the organ to function as it normally does. The system integrates a compact wireless monitor, an organ specific perfusion module, and proprietary solutions for organ maintenance. The system enables full biochemical and metabolic assessment of the organ as well as both visual and ultrasound based functional assessment.
