UFO Moviez is India’s largest digital cinema chain, currently pioneering the use of MPEG-4 technology based Digital Cinema System. This enables the delivery and projection of motion pictures through electronic transmission method, via a satellite.
Headquartered in Mumbai, the company operates through a network of 19 regional offices. It currently has over 2500 screens receiving movies delivered to them via satellite.
Investment Overview
3i invested US$22m in UFO Moviez in January 2007, with the aim of funding UFO Moviez’ aggressive expansion plans. As a pioneer in the cutting edge and fast growing digital cinema market, UFO is using the capital to invest in the necessary hardware to expand its footprint in India and abroad. We are bringing our sector experience and local knowledge to work closely with the management team on a number of strategic initiatives.
UFO is also pioneering 3D technology and is aiming to use the growth in 3D movies to enhance advertising revenue and diversify content.
