Nature of Business

Established in 1973, Vijai is among the largest players in India within the power transmission and distribution equipment industry. Vijai is also a leading player in undertaking turn-key projects in the transmission and distribution space.

The company is among a select few businesses within the segment with access to amorphous metal transformer technology. As it manufactures most of the critical components in-house, this allows Vijai one of the lowest no-load / load losses and failure rates in the industry.

Vijai has expanded its product range to include extra high voltage power transformers and switch-gear through technology tie-ups with majors in Japan and Russia. Vijai also has a Brazilian business and is looking at Mexico, Europe, Africa and other Asian markets.

The Indian power generation, transmission and distribution sector has seen tremendous growth in the past few years driven by government spending to sustain economic growth, reforms in central policies, a focus on rural electrification and an increase in power consumption driven by economic growth.

We invested $26m in Vijai in August 2006.
