Bookmark improves children’s literacy by promoting a reading for pleasure culture in primary schools.
The charity provides one-to-one reading programmes to children, delivers books and reading resources to schools and creates engaging reading spaces in those schools which creates a reading buzz across the whole school community.

In England, currently one in four children leave primary school unable to read well, limiting their potential in the classroom and beyond. These children are more likely to go on to experience unemployment, poor mental health and even a shorter life expectancy.

In the 24/25 academic year, Bookmark brought the joy of reading to 180,979 children in 399 schools in disadvantaged communities across the UK. The charity also and delivered 70,329 high-quality and diverse books and 3,970 story starter packs.
95% of teachers noticed an increase in the children's enjoyment of reading and 94% of children on Bookmark's one-to-one reading programme progressed at, or above, the rate expected for their age.
