Bookmark improves children’s literacy by promoting a reading for pleasure culture in primary schools.
The charity provides one-to-one reading programmes to children, delivers books and reading resources to schools and creates engaging reading spaces in those schools which creates a reading buzz across the whole school community.

In England, currently one in four children leave primary school unable to read well, limiting their potential in the classroom and beyond. These children are more likely to go on to experience unemployment, poor mental health and even a shorter life expectancy.
By fostering a love of reading, Bookmark Reading Charity is changing the story for children, equipping them with the reading skills they need for a brighter future.

In the 25/26 academic year, Bookmark delivered 56,485 one-to-one reading sessions to children across the UK. The charity also delivered 95,150 high-quality and diverse books and 3,980 Story Starter Packs to 89 schools as well as 834,850 copies of The Story Corner magazine.
96% of teachers noticed an increase in reading confidence of children who participated in the one-to-one reading programme; 91% of teachers noticed an increase in the reading enjoyment of pupils on the programme; and 89% of teachers noticed an increase in both reading motivation and in the reading skills of pupils on the programme.
By the end of August 2027, Bookmark aims to benefit half a million children and partner with 1,000 schools.
