Re-engage
Re-engage aims to minimise the impact of loneliness and isolation on older people and help them to live happier, more fulfilled lives.
The charity’s research shows that 1 million older people regularly go for a month between social interactions and the number of chronically lonely older people is expected to increase by 50% by 2028.

The charity engages with older people in a number of ways. Its tea parties are monthly social groups open to people aged 75 and over and give older people regular afternoons of conversation and laughter with friends of all ages. Call Companions is the charity’s telephone befriending service, where volunteers have weekly calls with the older person they are matched with. And Re-engage’s activity groups, which include tai chi, boules, dancing and skittles, help older people stay active.
All three services are rated highly with 95% of tea party guests rating them good or excellent; this figure is 84% for the activity groups and 81% for Call Companions.
In 2024/2025, Re-engage supported over 6,000 older people with the help of over 7,000 volunteers. The charity ran 307 tea party groups, launched 122 new in-person activity groups and matched another 2,952 older people with a Call Companion.
During the year, Re-engage also partnered with Pickleball Scotland to launch pickleball sessions as a way for older people to connect in Scotland; launched a multicultural group in Oldham; and established new groups in a variety of locations, including Bristol, Weymouth, Camden and Bromsgrove & Redditch.
It’s brought me out of my shell. I lost my confidence after Covid and losing my husband. But now I have something to go to. Somewhere to belong.
